A Girl with Kaleidoscope Eyes

I was just mentioning to my friend the other day, how I would like to dye my hair Raven Black. Despite my hair being dark enough, I would like it in an even deeper shade of midnight.

Vogue Italia however, thinks otherwise. In their May issue, Sasha Pivovarova showcases Summer 10's newest trend - crazy hair colours. From muted shades of pink to sunset orange, either way, I'm heading in a less fierce direction.

F/W 2010 Mens Collection by Christian Louboutin

I've posted up and praised enough creations of Sir Louboutin. However it is my first time posting part of his men's collection. I absolutely adore these. He's taken punk rock & studs to whole new level with this pair of "Louis" slip ons. On the right, he presents a zebra look (it's actually horse hair) - very Mad Hatter meets the Queen of Hearts to me.

I have recently found a new favourite face - Burna Tenorio. Yet another rising Brazilian beauty. She has striking eyes, and looks a bit Eurasian to me, (a bit Japanese, no?) which is maybe the reason why I adore her so much. She looks petite yet fierce.

Fashion Porn

Terry Richardson
'I love shooting guys. Some of my favorite pictures over the years have been the things I've done with guys. In a commercial context too, there's no hair or makeup with guys, which is great. I love shooting nudes of guys, but it's harder to get guys to do full nudes, I don't know why, but they don't want to show their junk. I love doing guys.'

from 'Terry's Diary'

Pirelli Calendar 2010

Since Rie Rasmussen, supermodel and women's rights advocate, confronted the world renown photographer Terry Richardson about his unethical methods of 'exploiting young girls'. Speculation has risen regarding Richardson's - who has photographed well known faces from President Obama to Pharell - and his practice.

With this in mind, I would like to visit the topic of

Art vs Pornography

When does a photograph, portrait, sketch, a statue, or an ad campaign become porn?

When private parts of the human body are exposed?

Or when sexual innuendos are prominent within the work of art itself?

What elements make art 'less indecent'? - When you thrown in a Dolce & Gabbana suit perhaps?

Or when your brand already has direct connotations towards sex?
Agent Provocateur, for example.

Place a celebrity/socialite/political figure in the spot light, then does it automatically carry a different label? PR stunt? .... Or just pure scandalous?

What if these indiscrete images were photographed flawlessly by Karl Lagerfeld?

What are the boundaries? Is there a manifesto?

'The Hong Kong Judiciary is shaking up the much criticised Obscene Articles Tribunal - which once ruled a picture of Michelangelo's David unsuitable for young Hong Kong's eyes - by almost doubling its pool of adjudicators and capping their service at nine years.'
South China Morning Post, 9th May, 10

But who has the qualifications to become an adjudicator? Who decides? Who gets to judge?

One thing I must say though. Diesel's got it right -

Diesel S/S 2010 Campaign

- sex, does indeed sell.

Such a Beautiful Disaster

Let's Get Lost With Daria Werbowy

For Interview May 2010

Loving the juxtaposition between Daria and the scene -
A partied out porcelain doll strewn across an urban upbeat setting

... Reminds me of this shoot

What a beautiful mess. ...

Would like to end with a quote. Some food for thought.

Second Glance

'GIVENCHY ...

... is the result of an interaction of phenomena which are atypical.'

Creative Director and designer Riccardo Tisci has certainly proved this declaration - which is the official statement used by House of Givenchy to describe him - true.

The maestro has casted a transgendered model, Lea T (formerly known as Leo), for this year's Fall/Winter campaign. The model, who is "part of the family", use to be a fitting model of his own line as well as his personal assistant. Explaining his decision on this controversial casting, Tisci states that Lea "exemplifies the masculine-feminine dichotomy" of his signature design aesthetic.

I smell fashion taking yet another step forward.

Curiouser & Curiouser ..

Have been very inspired this evening by candid shots, behind the scene photographs, collections, fashion blogs and lookbooks - decided that it was time for me to start blogging.

Some serious fashion porn -

Since noticing the Snow Queen from Alice in Wonderland, I've seen the appeal to the softness all white everything exudes -

- having said that though, I think you have to rock bold black make up (strong, dark smoky eye), granite black nails, fierce somewhat masculine sky-scraping heels and an oversized black bag (Ostrich Black Birkin perhaps? ... or a patent leather Chanel?) Oh and grungy distressed silver jewelry. Mmmmmm!

Chanel's Spring/Summer 2010 behind the scenes of "Latin Lover"

... And I just thought this was brilliant.

Been feeling productive recently, thanks to my thirst for epiphanies. Am looking forward to my shoot for a coffee table book where fellow (Eur)Asians will be dressed in traditional Asian attire and posing and going crazy with weapons in front of a cartoon/pop art-eque backgrounds. I'm thinking double ended daggers/sabers? ... Or a samurai sword?

These photos are also in spirit of Hed Kandi World Series Tokyo that went on at the W hotel the weekend before last. Gotta love oriental chic.

To end with, this is my my new Blackberry home screen!
- LV Spring/Summer 2010 backstage shot.
LOVE it.
